View Thread: just what can she do?

that is what me and Eric set out to find today when we took my 930s and his supra out to a big, well kept (and smooth) parking lot for some fun.

using road cones that i stole a long time ago we set up our own AutoX course and took turns running through and then sitting out and timing the other guy.then we took the same cones and we walked out a 700foot skidpad to run around and get a feel for just what our cars could do around the skidpad.
most of this was done in the spirit of boredom and becuase i wanted to see what my new tires could do. but it was also a celebration of Martin Luther King Jr.s birthday. I am sure he would want to see this kind of thing happening, even if it has nothing to do with civil rights or the advancment of mankind.

anyways.

with me driving my car I managed a best run of 50seconds. not bad i thought and my other times were pretty close to that.

then Eric took out the supra, a car that weighs much more than my 930S and he managed 49seconds consistantly. hmmmmm damn you eric, damn you.

but the really cool thing was that he drove my car through our little autoX and he got 48 seconds on his 2nd try(wow, my car is fucking QUICK!) and even though it kinda pointed out that I have alot of practice to go before i am a good driver, it made me stoked that the car was that capable. I mean it wasn't much faster than the supra and even though the supra is really heavy it has huge brakes and it holds the road like there is no tomorrow.

and speaking of holding the road, on a 700Ft skidpad, my porsche, with it's 16 year old RUF suspension geometry, pulled a .96G's and that was an average of going around left and right(it will corner slightly harder when turning left), and it was on freezing cold skidpad(I let air of the tires to compensate) I am almost certain that if the skipad had been warmer I would have pulled over a G of lateral acceleration. I am very happy with this car, the RUF suspension compentry is adjustable(but it is very confusing) and I am betting that once I figure it out more I can get it to be more autoX baised and thus make my car even more of a badass.

sub thirteens for sure(mid 12s most likly), might not be supercar speeds to 60 but the car has some unbelivable accleration from 60-120. think about it this way. it has a power to wieght ratio of about 6.4 lbs/Hp so it ain't loosing to anything this side of a Z06 or 911 turbo. but it is not really geared for the strip. regardless of what it does at the strip however it is still stupid fast, and as I just mentioned it can corner stupid hard.

Yea, im looking at a RX7 right now for 300 less motor and tranny, build it up a lil but, just enough to keep on hte straights, but then make it a auto-x monster!

eric
What year Rx-7?

Apple_Jacks
I thought you were only 15-16yrs SLP? can you drive yet?

SLP Addict
its a 84, and thats where working on it comes in, i work on it for a yr, and only drive it for testing, im gonna be 15 in a lil less than a month.

My Rex is being worked on right now (one of them). I can't wait until it's done. Woooooo. Porsches have always pulled very very good on skidpads, I saw a comparison of a bunch of them somewhere.

mustangdriver
You have a Rex Mase? More than one? I must still not be awake yet....*yawn*

masestylez
Sort of...one is mine, I just can't pick which one, and it isn't paid for yet. It's just being an indescisive(sp) lazyass.

Please explain...

...and steal one, er, BUY one for me too...

masestylez
My friend has about five of them some turbo'd some not, and one of them is mine, like mostly paid for. I just haven't picked because of my licensing fiasco.

FabUlous
licensing fiasco??
pray tell

masestylez
The latest round is that the DMV has no record of me completing driver's ed so it's become a huge deal, and tehy found it on friday and are processing it today, so I have to call and see what other fees they are going to rape from me, hopefully today or tomorrow for the written test and monday for my drivers. Jackasses.

scubie02
Some turbo'ed and some not? Why would you "un-turbo" a wrx?

masestylez
RX-7 not WRX. :)

Rotary Boy
two different rex's

Ahhh, duh--sorry, more used to hearing the second these days...

Still, I'm surprised your friend would have all these cars in Idaho. My brother lived in Montana for awhile and said where he was only the REALLY main roads were paved, they put down gravel all the time, and people mostly drove old beater trucks that they replaced the engines on because there was no sense in messing up the paint on a new vehicle from all the gravel thrown up--and they liked to keep an extra winsdshield in stock to replace the inevitable chiped windshields. And a girl I knew from Idaho pretty much said the same thing and that it was even MORE rural than when she lived in Montana. But I'm sure there are exceptions to everything--thats just my "mental picture" i guess. Probably depends on where you live I suppose.

masestylez
It's always been paved here, but this is a major tourist city, so it's actually an urban area. Everything is paved. When you go up north however, some of the roads aren't as nice if you get off the highways. I don't go to those places though because of the "townie hunters" discussed in another thread. :)

"townie hunters":headscrat

masestylez
Hicks who don't like townfolk coming around there land, and WILL shoot you if they find you on their property(unclearly marked most of the time) or if your come on their roads. My friends got shot at over near Wolf Lodge about a month ago.

What city do you live near? There are "major tourist cities" in Idaho...? :p

masestylez
Yeah, Coeur d' Alene is where I live, it gets a HUGE amount of tourism, we have a Hagadone Hotel here (for anyone who knows Hawaii or NoCal) and thats what this city is geared to, other than the college.

eric
Dude it sucks that they are preventing you from getting your liscence. I remeber waiting for mine and if they had done anything to lenghten the time I had to wait i would have risen hell.

Is your friend planning on selling and of the other rex's?

mustangdriver
I got my liscense exactly on my 16th birthday. It was in a tropical storm (it had a name, forgot what it was) and I was the only one out there that day. I passed the first time and was so excited/nervous after it was over my Dad freakin drove home. That and it was hard to see 10 feet in front of you with the rain.

yeah i got my license about four months late, and it sucked.......oh yeah that was on January 7th:fro: ........im a youngin too, but its okay....now i need to find a car

since im thinkin about it
KILL STORY:i was driving my moms chevy malibu (snicker snicker)....and i was just cruisin after midterms, and i saw a '00-'01 integra in front of me on the extension, of course i pull up to it expecting some sort of race......i blow by them doing 60, go around the rotary (no point for em but we got em), and go onto another extension doing 80.....i never saw that integra again even in my rear view mirror...kinda made me feel bad for the car being mistreated

masestylez
Yeah it's hell, and it just snowed buckets so I have to wait until thats gone to take my test. GRRR (Only one instructor is available for snow this time of year and he fails you if you slide PERIOD, waste of money) but it's supposed to get better next week. Cross ya fingers.

eric rxb- I have no idea what's going on with the other ones.

eric
Man does that suck. What if you're able to control the slide really well ala rally driving?
